While the title race is building up to another exciting climax, Melton Mowbray will next week face another D-Day in their bid for promotion to the next tier of non-league football.

East Midlands Counties League officials are due at Melton’s new home on Monday to carry out a ground inspection.

Hoby Road’s failure to comply with ground regulations for step six sides has cost Melton promotion for the last two seasons and prompted their forthcoming move to Burton Road in the town.

Melton Council have worked to get the new pitch and facilities up to scratch, and earlier this week a 100-seater stand was installed.

The ground will act as the club’s temporary home while a proposed 400-seater stadium is built.

A final decision on the proposed arena, along with the whole Melton Sports Village project, was due to be given by the council’s planning committee last night (Wednesday).
