McDaid double fires Asfordby FC to Whetstone win

Asfordby FC Under 12s enjoyed back-to-back away victories over south Leicester opposition with a 4-1 win at Whetstone Jaguars.

The start of the match was delayed due to an accident as players arrived and took their positions ready for kick-off almost immediately.

Yet it was Asfordby who settled into their stride the quicker and after just 10 minutes a through ball from Smith set McDaid through to slot home his first of the game.

McDaid bagged a second not long after when Lee tried an auspicious overhead kick which caught the keeper by surprise, spilling the ball back into play where McDaid was ready to pounce.

It wasn’t all plain sailing as Whetsone, who had scored seven goals in their previous two games, came forward and applied pressure with a number of attempts on goal.

Asfordby maintained their two-goal advantage up to half-time, but this was halved just five minutes into the second half when a ball was centred from the right for the number nine to score.

A nervous spell saw Whetstone continue to apply pressure, but a break from defence saw the ball eventually land with Smith who restored the two-goal cushion with a shot into the bottom corner.

Scarborough wrapped up the scoring for Asfordby, latching onto a cross delivered by J. Green to calmly slot home.

A late attack by Whetstone came to nothing as Asfordby keeper Neece took the ball from mid-air while lying on his back!

A well-deserved victory with McDaid picking up the man-of-the-match award for his brace.
