Still smarting from the defeat by Market Rasen Town two weeks earlier, Skegness United bounced back to claim the three points in the reverse fixture at Rase Park on Saturday.

The Seasiders were on the back foot early on, but an Andrew Belt shot failed to force visiting keeper Travis Portas into making a save.

United took the lead in the 13th minute when Daniel Reid controlled a Jake Portas cross from the right and with his next touch stroked the ball into the bottom corner past William Bradford.

At the other end Portas scrambled away a dipping shot from George Bennett.

It was a scrappy game with very few chances, but Skegness were gifted some breathing space just before the interval when Aaron Ford stabbed the ball past his own keeper to make the score 2-0.

Ford atoned fr his error midway through the second half when he cleared off the line to deny Alex Kendrick a third Skegness goal.

From the resulting corner United’s James Gray headed onto the top of the crossbar.

Both sides huffed and puffed, but there was little goalmouth action for the rest of the game.

On Saturday, Rasen are at home again when the league leaders Sleaford Town Reserves visit Rase Park.
