Captain for the day Dolby won the toss and elected to play with sun behind them for the first half,

Hindmarsh played a deft one-two with Hill, allowing Hill to round the keeper and score the opener. The Asfordby defence of Swann, Atton, Halliday and Hindmarsh thwarted a Burbage attack, while keeper Cook commanded his area well.

And Asfordby doubled their lead when Rowe was fouled in the area, and Hill converted the penalty.

The injured Hindmarsh was replaced by Deacon, and with half-time looming, Dolby chased down a back pass, but Hill shot wide.

The second half began with Asfordby again on the attack, and when Palmer and Clarke pressured the defence into a mistake, Hill combined with Rowe whose shot eventually found the net.

And it was 4-0 when Deacon headed clear, and Clarke threaded the loose ball to Hill who beat two defenders and shot low past the keeper.

Burbage pulled one back when Asfordby failed to deal with a long ball, and then made it 4-2.

Halliday stood strong against Burbage’s nippy winger, while Swann also cleared a dangerous attack, and Atton controlled the defence with Cook springing into action when required.

Cook’s quick thinking allowed Dolby and Rowe to combine well, with the latter outsprinting the defence to cap a great game with a goal.

A fine result which rewarded great teamwork throughout.

* Asfordby FC Under 11s’ match at Market Harborough opened with end-to-end football as both teams tried to penetrate through midfield and defence. The Asfordby boys used the wings well to get the ball up to the frontmen where Max, Joe and Thomas delivered the goods.

The whole team played superbly and kept their heads when Harborough raised their game in the second half, holding fast and producing what was needed to keep in front.
