Hill fires Asfordby Lions to Bharat Sports win

Asfordby Lions were in buoyant mood for their trip to Bharat Sports for their penultimate game of the season, following their 1-1 draw with Harborough Town.

Both teams started on the attack and the hosts took an early lead when a loose ball was dispatched into Asfordby’s goal.

The midfield of McCafferty, Cook, McCracken, Saffhill and Azhashemi began to get on top of the opposition, allowing Hill to latch onto a through ball and equalise with a low finish.

Asfordby’s defence of Jolliffe, Wallis, Razor and Mikey was once more tested, but Wade saved well and then passed the ball out to Jolliffe.

He fed McCracken down the wing who linked well with Hill to score his second and put the Lions in front.

Bharat levelled after the break, but Hill again popped up to complete his hat-trick and restore the lead after great work from Razor and McCafferty.

Saffhill, McCafferty and McCracken played some lovely one-twos down the right to earn a corner. Hill’s floated delivery found Azhashemi who rose above the keeper to head home.

Wallis won the ball in defence and set off on a jinking run down the left to earn another corner. A carbon copy of the previous corner saw Azhashemi head home his second for 5-2.

McCafferty’s thunderous shot was blocked late on, while at the other end Jolliffe cleared any danger and keeper Wade controlled his area well despite the uneven pitch.

McCracken ran the channels, supported by Hill and McCafferty, while Saffhill headed away any high balls in a great team performance.
