Girls' football: Asfordby Amateurs title dreams put on hold
In front of a bumper crowd, Asfordby started strongly against title rivals Leicester City Ladies Fosse with top scorer Hope Metcalf having some good early chances, but it proved difficult to break down the City’s tough defence.
Ruby Attewell, Evie Mcdaid and Erin Baker all worked tirelessly in midfield, attacking with purpose and getting back to defend when needed.

Hide AdAmateurs also had Ella and Charlotte to thank for some excellent defending and last-ditch tackles, while keeper Leah Scallon got down quickly to turn a shot around the post.
Knowing only three points would secure the title, Asfordby came out all guns blazing in the second half.
But Fosse grew into the game, forcing a series of corner, but the home defence coped well.
Ruby Attewell, Charlotte Moule, and Hope Metcalf were all injured in a physical game, but subs Sophie T, Alice Henley O’Sullivan, Lauryn Aldridge and Ruby Sarginson all worked hard and put in great performances.

Hide AdA long looping kick was picked up by the strong wind and almost caught out keeper Scallon who had to tip it over the bar.
Fosse forced more corners, but again Amateurs were resilient to clear any danger.
Asfordby pushed for a late winner and went close when Mcdaid’s great free-kick forced a save from Leicester’s keeper.
Amateurs, in their first season, remain top of the Leicester City and County Under 12s Green Division on goal difference, but now need results to go in their favour if the title is to be theirs.
