Football's on hold, but Asfordby FC are putting in the groundwork for a bright future

Football may be on hold, but the hard work continues at Asfordby FC.

A third national lockdown means the first team - currently eight points clear at the top of the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two North & East table - haven’t kicked a ball in anger since December, while the other 19 senior and junior sides are also out of action.

However, Asfordby are looking to the future.

“Grant money from the Football Foundation is being used to keep the pitches ready for our return and groundsman Carel Fourie will be starting a big project in the next few weeks, resurfacing our training area and main pitch,” said vice-chairman Matt Pond.

“This will take a few months but will be a major boost for our youth and senior teams for years to come.”

Some players are joining the Football Development Schools Academy for Zoom training sessions that could be carried out indoors.

Within the club there have been team quizzes, training programmes sent out and the club’s social media channels have lots of different things to look - at including player profiles of the senior teams.

The club is also planning to put new sponsorship boards up around the first team pitch, the culmination of hard work behind the scenes by sponsorship manager Luke Dugmore, working alongside SignRight Creative.
