Football fever at The Edge

THERE was some cracking young footballing talent on show during an Easter football competition held at The Edge children’s and community centre.

Ex Foxes stars Steve Walsh and Muzzy Izzet were on hand to offer some expert training to youngsters who took part in the three day competition, working on their skills before teams then went head-to-head for a place in the final.

Youngsters aged nine to 13 and older youths aged 14-17 enjoyed the event, with certificates presented to all those who took part.

Medals were also presented to the runners-up as well as the winners who also received a trophy. The winning side in the nine to 13 age category was the Street Strikers.

One of the organisers of the competition, held from April 26-28, said: “It was a great three days thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was great to see so many youngsters having fun and with smiles on their faces and it was also good to see so many parents watching and giving their support.

“Overall the competition went very well and it gives us bags of enthusiasm to do something like this again. It will definitely be repeated.

“We have a brilliant multi-use games area at The Edge and we want young people to be able to use it.”

Thanks go to all those who helped organise the event including Sam Spencer, Kat Plimmer and others including parents.
