Division One leaders Town are unbeaten this campaign but take on ambitious opponents who have made a flying start to their first season in East Midlands Counties league, lying fourth with four wins from five.

Holwell, meanwhile, made a winning start, but go into Saturday’s tie on the back of four straight defeats, while opponents Pinxton sit third in Central Midlands League South Division with two wins out of two.

For Division One leaders Melton Town it is only their second time in the Vase, at least since the club was reformed.

They made a winning debut last September, beating South Normanton 3-2 before suffering a 4-1 home defeat to Bolsover in the second qualifying round.

By contrast, Holwell have entered the competition for the last 29 seasons and have enjoyed a good recent history in the competition.

Their best-ever run came in the 2013/14 season under Simon Daws when they reached round three after wins over Quorn, Thurnby Nirvana, Radcliffe Olympic and Rocester.

Last year they fell at the first hurdle, beaten by a single goal by Dunkirk.
