Defeats for Melton Town and Holwell Sports

Holwell Sports were eliminated from the FA Vase following a 2-1 defeat at Birstall United.

Paul Pallett converted an eighth-minute penalty after Dion Potter who was brought down in the box, the same player making it 2-0 at the break, coolly slotting home after a quick free kick.

Sports grabbed a late consolation but had to settle for their third straight 2-1 defeat in a row.

Meanwhile, Melton Town went down 1-0 at home to Bourne Town.

Town had netted 15 times in their opening two games, but George Couzens ended their 100 per cent start to the campaign with the only goal of the game in the first half.
