Amateurs looked slow and lethargic following their weekend off and after five minutes found themselves trailing.

Asfordby struggled to break their well organised, tough and resilient opponents, but Erin Baker got the equaliser after 15 minutes when she smashed home from inside the box.

More pressure saw the visitors restore their lead before half-time.

It took 10 second-half minutes for Amateurs to click into their usual fast-paced attacking rhythm, and top scorer Hope Metcalf buried a low shot to drag them level again.

Asfordby began to use the wingers Ruby Attewell and Evie Mcdaid to great effect and they set up the next goal. After taking on a player, Attewell’s cross found Sophie Townsend who lashed home to make it 3-2 and calm the nerves.

The home side’s fitness and dominance was beginning to show and they were soon 4-2 up courtesy of top scorer Metcalf’s second of the game and 12th of the campaign.

Rugby didn’t give in and Asfordby had to defend well with the busy Lauryn Aldridge and Ella Wright coping well.

And with five minutes left, great goals from Mcdaid, and Millie G confirmed the win with Attewell and Mcdaid sharing the player-of-the-match accolade.

Amateurs are next in action at Loughborough Foxes.
