Asfordby Amateurs Girls held to draw at Leicester

Asfordby Amateurs Girls Under 12s hit the road for their opening league match against Leicester Ladies on Sunday.

The visitors started full of pace, passion and their passing was excellent, dominating the first 10 minutes.

Hope Metcalf, Evie Mcdaid and Erin Baker all went close as Amateurs created numerous opportunities, and after 15 minutes the deadlock was broken in spectacular fashion when Metcalf received a pass from midfield and scored on the turn.

Asfordby continued to go close via Ruby Attewell, Mcdaid and Metcalf, but just before half-time Leicester equalised after some lacklustre defending.

In the second half Asfordby had to dig deep against some good pressure from Leicester.

But Ella Wright, Lauren Farrow and Clara Hanson-Smith were strong and resolute in defence, restricting Leicester to long-range efforts, and had their keeper Leah Scallon to thank for some excellent saves late on, including a last-minute tip onto the bar.

Asfordby’s player-of-the-match was Lauryn Aldridge who came on and put in a solid performance in central midfield, her first outing in this position.

The Amateurs next head to Rugby on Sunday.

Amateurs: Leah S, Lauren F, Lauryn A, Clara S, Sophie V, Sophie T, Alice H, Hope M, Erin B, Evie M, Ella W (c), Ruby A.
