Excellent field for Melton RBL Poppy Appeal Golf Day

SUNDAY, 5pm: An excellent field of 128 players teed off for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal Day at Melton Golf Club on Friday.

Playing in pairs from two tees in a betterball stableford competition, they enjoyed fine weather with only a slight breeze resulting in some high scores.

The winning team of Melton GC members Neale Eaves and Nick Pattison returned a score of 48 points, three clear of the runners-up.

The competition is in its 12th year and the Melton Mowbray RBL are very grateful to Melton GC for their support and sponsorship.

Other sponsors were estate agents Bentons and Dickinson and Morris Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, stalwart sponsors through all these years.

The day coincided with the launch of the national Poppy Appeal and raised 1,200 for the Poppy Fund.

Melton Mowbray RBL contributes more than 24,000 annually to the national fund which spends around 85 million in welfare support for the needy in the ex-service community.
