Sunday league cricket: Queniborough extend lead as Egerton Park collapse

Their five-wicket win in Ashby Folville, twinned with a heavy defeat for nearest rivals Egerton Park at Houghton-on-the-Hill, left them 32 points clear of the Melton team.

Ashby slipped into the bottom two, leapfrogged by Houghton, after they were bowled out for just 132 on home soil, before Queniborough eased home by five wickets.

Park had hoped to keep up the pressure on the leaders, but lost ground as they were bowled out for just 49 in reply to the hosts’ hefty total of 271-5.

Ben Silver, who plays county league cricket for Barkby, hit an unbeaten 116 for Houghton, with good support from Tom Brotherhood (56 not out).

The pick of the Egerton Park attack was Michael Dover-Jaques who took fine figures of 3 for 29 from six overs.

In contrast, Park’s reply never got off the ground as Colin Griggs whistled through the top order (5 for 2).

Four of Park’s top five failed to score and only 26 from Charlie Madden spared further embarrassment.

Adam Stapleford-Jones took 5 for 20 to help bowl the hosts out for 140 despite a half-century from opener Inderpaul Birk (57).

There were contributions throughout Barkby’s top order in reply, notably from Doug German (38) and John Pook (37), as the visitors coasted home by seven wickets with almost 15 overs still in hand.

The win lifted them up to seventh, while Syston are rooted to the bottom.

Ashby Carington Seconds stay fifth after a heavy defeat at Empingham where the hosts plundered 348-6 from their 40 overs, thanks to Howarth (119) and 99 from Rob McKevitt.

Ashby opener Nigel Lewis hit 55 and Louis Massarella added 40 in reply, but the visitors were never in sight of their target and settled for batting points, closing on 207-6.

Frisby, Hoby and Rotherby were also on the wrong end of some big hitting as they slumped to a 121-run defeat at Stamford Town.

The hosts batted first after winning the toss and racked up 285-5, largely thanks to opener Clive Simmons.

He carried his bat through the 40 overs, plundering 25 boundaries and three sixes to finish with an unbeaten 155.

Frisby skipper Adam Holland (43) and Luke Whitaker (49) provided some resistance, but there was not enough support as the visitors were bowled out for 164.
