He was well supported by the part-time spinner Charlie Madden who picked up two important wickets, and the veteran Jason Creed who bowled his customary heavy ball deliveries.

Park’s reply looked to be in control with Rose (43) and Bailey (19) making valuable contributions, leaving the home side needing only two runs to win off the last over with eight wickets in hand.

But when Madden was bowled off the first ball and Creed lbw off the next it was left to Burdett and Glover to scamper a couple of quick singles and see them to victory with only one ball remaining.

* Melton Mowbray conceded their first round tie against Thorpe Arnold who will meet Belvoir in the first semi-final tomorrow (Friday).

Park face Oakham in the second semi-final on Friday, July 15. Both matches begin at 6.15pm.
