BROUGHTON came up short in a cracking game against Melton Town OB despite a fine effort from Paul Stephenson.

He finished on 108 not out, but the only other notable score was 25 extras as the home side compiled 138-4.

Shirtliffe (2 for 32) and Cooney (1 for 39) finally slowed the run rate for Melton’s attack.

Batting first, Melton Town OB started off slowly, but gradual acceleration from Shirtliffe (65 not out) and Cooney (50 not out) helped them post a winning total.
