Melton target higher leagues after securing promotion

Hide AdThe championship run-in turned into a bit of anti-climax with the final four fixtures not taking place due to bad weather and Saturday’s scheduled opponents, Thorpe Arnold 2nds, failing to raise a side.
That gave Melton the title although closest rivals Market Overton were beaten by nine runs by Illston Abbey.
Freer said: “We found out on Thursday night that Thorpe wouldn’t be able to field a team but we had to wait until Saturday when the league was notified.

Hide Ad“It was a bit of an anti-climax to be honest because it had been neck-and-neck with Market Overton up until the last few games.
“We have been top for the majority of the season so I think we deserve to win the title. It’s been a great season for us.”
