Bottesford and Brownlow Schools crowned Melton and Belvoir cricket titles

Bottesford and Brownlow Primary School cricketers will represent the borough on the county stage after winning a schools tournament.

More than 150 pupils and 17 teams 17 teams took part in the initial stages of the Melton and Belvoir Primary Schools Kwik Cricket competition at Melton Mowbray CC.

Schools vied to top their group and qualify for the finals afternoon last week. Redmile, Great Dalby, Bottesford A all finished top of their groups, while Frisby booked their place in the semi-finals as the best runner-up.

Great Dalby made it into the final after beating Frisby, and faced Bottesford A who managed to defeat Redmile In the other semi-final.

And Bottesford were crowned champions after winning an evenly-matched final.

Bottesford B and Frisby won the Spirit of the Games Award for showing good teamwork, passion and support.

As part of the This Girl Can Week, five teams from Brownlow, Bottesford and Stathern took part in a girls-only Kwik Cricket competition.

Brownlow A finished top of the group with Stathern Primary School close behind in second.

Brownlow B took home the girls’ Spirit of the Games trophy for passion and perseverance.

Both Brownlow and Bottesford will represent Melton and Belvoir at the Leicestershire and Rutland Sport School Games Summer Championships in the girls’ and mixed kwik cricket competitions, respectively, at Welbeck Defence College.

Organisers wish ti thank Melton Mowbray CC for hosting and supporting the competition, the John Ferneley College young leaders who assisted and umpired both competitions, and all the teams who took part.

* Melton Mowbray CC hold training sessions for youngsters in school Years 2 to 6 on Friday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm at the All England Ground. All abilities welcome and equipment is provided.
