Vintage and classic cars roll into town for annual Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray festival

As part of the ongoing work to support community causes and charities the Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray organised and ran their second annual Vintage and Classic Car Festival in Play Close, on Sunday.

Just under 50 cars assembled on the lawns ranging from a 1930’s Austin 7 Ruby to a Rolls Royce.

Other attractions included family stalls, a barbecue, motorbikes, a raffle, a tea tent and 103 The Eye were present.

The best in show prize as voted for by the public, was awarded to an Austin Healy 3000 Mk 11, closely followed by a Ford Falcon and a Ford Capri.

This year’s event raised proceeds for the Leicester Hospice Charity Loros, one of the two charities chosen by the club’s president Ian Neale.

Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray member Julia Hinde said: “It was an excellent event with the members of Melton Rotary working alongside the other Rotary clubs in Melton and members of their satellite section.

“Although all the expenses and monies from the raffle are not yet received we anticipate that around £1,000 will be set aside for Loros.”
