UPDATE: Melton's Sherrard Street still closed due to burst water pipe

The incident led to the closure of Sherrard Street this week, causing delays and disruption. At the time of going to press it wasn’t known when the road would re-open.

Severn Trent spokeswoman Grace Marren said: “We’re sorry to our customers who were affected by the burst water pipe in Sherrard Street and were left with no water supply.

“The burst wasn’t related to the work we’re doing to replace water pipes in the area. We’re working as quickly as we can to repair the damaged pipe and get everything back to normal.”

A spokesman said the water supply was back on by 1pm on Tuesday.

Severn Trent is replacing old cast iron water pipes in the Sherrard Street area with new and more reliable plastic ones.

Work on the project to replace the old pipes is due to continue for the next two weeks.
