Standard of entry was high again at horticultural show

The event at The V.C. Hall was organised by the Bottesford and District Gardens Association. It featured 353 entries across 103 classes from 68 different exhibitors.

Top winner was Mark Skinner who took the award for Top Vase as well as six other trophies for his flowers and vegetables.

Alan Smith won the Top Tray Award and two further trophies, one for his fuchsia and the other for top novice. Other notable winners included Vic Martin who won best sweet peas and Pete Simpson won the best rose in show.

C Hulse won the needlework class and A Tapson the homecraft classes. Arts and crafts bets in show was shared by G Crook and C Clarke.

The children’s classes were won by H Dobney (infants) and S Colton (juniors).

There were several judges this year. Don Shields and Frank Hughes for the flowers, fruit and vegetables, Hazel Preston judged the arts and craft, Cathryn Pacey the homecrafts classes, Wendy Carolan the children’s classes and Ted Rayson oversaw the judging of the photography.

Bottesford and District Gardens Association secretary, Debbie Pickin, said: “The public attendance was approximately 110. We also held a raffle and had tea and cakes.

“Everyone had an enjoyable day and the standard of entry was high.”
