Safer Summer campaign targets seasonal crime rise

Leicestershire Police has launched its Safer Summer campaign aiming to ensure the people of Melton and the rest of the county and Rutland stay safe during the summer.

The campaign will focus on five key crime areas that normally peak during summer months. They are burglary, anti-social and nuisance behaviour, personal safety, vehicle crime and online safety.

Neighbourhood policing lead Supt Kerry Mclernon said: “If people take responsibility for their actions and respect others everyone can enjoy their summer.”

The campaign is being backed by a range of organisations including Melton Council and Leicestershire County Council.

Coun Joe Orson, the county council’s cabinet member for safer communities, said: “We’re proud to support the campaign. Following a few simple steps when you’re home or out can have a big impact on preventing crime.”
