Person killed after being hit by train near Melton

Emergency services were deployed after reports that a person was hit by a train near Melton early this morning (Friday).

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line in Hoby at 4.51am on Friday May 21 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) said it was called out to the incident at 4.55am and a double-crewed ambulance was sent to the scene, along with a fast response vehicle and a doctor in a car.

Train services were disrupted for a few hours following the incident, with a number of diverted routes being used.
