Sherrard Street flooded by burst water main

Sherrard Street in Melton is this morning (Friday) closed to traffic after the town centre road was flooded following a burst water main.

A team from Severn Trent is assessing the damage but it is understood it could take some time to fix the problem.

A spokesperson for the water company said: “We’re really sorry for any disruption caused by the burst pipe on Sherrard Street this morning.

“Our teams are on site, and the burst is not currently affecting anyone’s water supply.

“To keep everyone safe, we will be using traffic management so we can safely dig down and start repairing the pipe.

“Again, we’re sorry for the inconvenience but it will be our absolute priority to get everything fixed and back to normal as quickly as possible.”

An update from Leicestershire Police states: “There is a burst water main along Sherrard street in Melton Mowbray.

“There is a road closure now in place and Severn Trent water are aware.

“Please find an alternative route.”
