Locals have noticed a considerable increase in bikers making their way noisily along the B6047, a road which is traditionally popular with riders because of the twists and turns it features.

Councillor Bob Child, Melton Borough Council representative for the Gaddesby ward which includes Great Dalby, said he had been inundated with complaints from residents who said they regularly had to put up with noisy motorcyclists shattering their peace.

Councillor Child told the Melton Times: “There were many bikes, in groups of up to eight or so, throughout Sunday, for example, and there is a 30mph speed limit in the village.

“One resident said the road was clear and that the motorcyclists were treating it like a racetrack.

“These are the same roads that young families walk along every day and sooner or later there is going to be an incident.”

He added: “I have spoken to Leicestershire Police and, whilst I accept they are very busy at this time and have higher priorities, I do look forward to see targeting on speeding, etc.

“They have responded by stating that regular speed traps will be set up along with an increased police presence over the coming months.”
