Olivia Garney, who attends Old Dalby Primary School is sending 11 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust charity, which provides real hair wigs for children with hair loss.

Her mum Melanie who cut her hair said: “Olivia loved being involved in raising funds for an amazing charity. Having suffered the loss of her grandfather to cancer, although being too young to understand it, I am proud that she took the decision to have her hair cut to help raise money and support for children who are facing the same battle.

“Not only did she gather donations from family and friends but she also had donations from people who have never met her. Olivia was given donations for a cake sale at school on the last day of term whilst having her hair cut. She even missed out on getting a cake herself until a kind friend offered to bake her some the next day.”

Olivia has raised £500 via her Just Giving page plus £166 from her cake sale. The amount she has raised is nearly enough to purchase two wigs for the Little Princess Trust.

She said: “I feel very proud to be helping out and am amazed how much I have managed to raise. My friends were really lovely and encouraged me and said well done for helping. They also said that they didn’t think they would recognise me with short hair as I have always had really long hair!”

Melanie added: “ We are all very proud of Olivia and have helped and supported her along the way. We have all enjoyed being part of such a lovely act of kindness. She is such a beautiful girl, inside and out. Thank you everyone who has taken the time to support her and the amazing charity that is The Little Princess Trust.”

Olivia’s Just Giving page is still open for additional sponsor money if people still wish to make a donation.
