Old Dalby Day is a real treat as folk flock to it on Bank Holiday Monday

Old Dalby residents Barry and Marilyn Pratt officially opened the event. Both have worked hard helping organise the event since its beginning over 30 years ago.

Their most challenging task though on Monday was to judge the children’s fancy dress competition. From the 15 children taking part, Joshua Nicholson (4), dressed as a knight, was the winner.

There was a wide variety of attractions throughout the day, the horticultural competition drawing strong entries for all classes from the longest runner bean, the largest marrow, to the smallest tomato. Photographic and art competitions were also popular.

Every year the number of vehicles on display for the classic and vintage car show increases. The military vehicles and equipment on display by Ray Allured were particularly well-received.

On the village green there were performances from juggler and magician Brett Sirrell, ferret racing by “Wild in the Country,” Stagecoach Theatre Arts and Punch and Judy.

Music was provided by Solar Latino, a salsa Latin band, Adrian Kerr, Second Frets, Shades of Grey and young musicians Ilori and Felix.

Villager Jim Patman said: “With spells of sunshine in the afternoon it was a very enjoyable occassion and a justification for the many hours of hard work put in by volunteers organising and making the day successful.”
