New volunteers welcome to help out at Melton wellness centre
A Melton charity which helps people with their mental health is on the lookout for new volunteers in 2026.
The Pepper’s – A Safe Place wellbeing centre, on Nottingham Street, offers social sessions, mindfulness, art and craft workshops, music, exercise classes and walks.

The sessions provide an opportunity for people to chat with volunteers, enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit, get mental wellbeing support and make new friends.
One of the charity’s volunteers, Darren, recently raised £730 for the activities there by taking part in the annual Santa Fun Run, organised by the town Rotary club at Melton Country Park.
The money will help fund activities, training and refreshment costs at the much-loved safe space in the town centre.
Darren, who helps there twice a week, said: “I want to say a big thank you to everyone who donated to my fundraiser and supported me on the day, it means a lot.
“Pepper’s makes such a difference within the community. I’m very proud to volunteer there and help the people who come into our safe space each week.
"The charity is always on the lookout for new volunteers to join its friendly team as a listener and tea maker.”
Pepper’s is open to any adults, aged 18 or over, who want to take some time out to look after their mental health, combat loneliness and re-connect with the local community.
There’s no charge to go along (donations of £1 for tea and coffee are welcome) and no need to book – just drop-in.
Jenny Hendry, manager at the Melton centre, added: “We couldn’t do what we do and support so many people without the help of our volunteers.
“Our volunteers mean so much to the people who come to us for kindness, support and a listening ear, and we are so grateful to each and every one of them.
“Darren’s fundraising is a step beyond and we’re extremely appreciative of his time, effort and generosity - it will go a long way to helping people next year.”
Pepper’s is at 43 Nottingham Street, Melton Mowbray, LE13 1NN.
