Tom Griggs, owner of Icon Music, in King Street, is looking to take his business in a new direction as he prepares for challenging times ahead .

He is seeking to boarden the appeal of his shop. From Saturday (June 27) the name Icon Music will change to Icon UK - Music, Merch & More.

Mr Griggs said: “To secure a future for the business, we need to diversify and offer a whole range of products that have wider appeal.”

“Specialist shops can be intimidating, but our door is open to all. Over the past few years we have been steadily building up our range of products. We now have T-shirts, hoodies, shirts, caps, jewellery and other attire.

“It’s not just music based, we also have a rail of classic film and TV character merch and a broad selection of gifts as well as headphones & wireless speakers with a testing station so you can try before you buy.

“We want people to know that they are welcome to come in and browse - we’re not just here to serve musicians, although that’s an important part of our business, of course.”

As well as putting Covid 19 measures in place to keep customers safe, Tom has been busy reorganising the window displays and showrooms to reflect the shift of emphasis.

To mark the relaunch the shop is giving away T-shirts to five readers who can answer: What year did Nirvana release the album Unplugged in New York? Mr Griggs is also giving away a guitar to the winner of a ‘guess the number of plectrums in a jar’ competition in store.
