Memorial service to be held for much-missed church stalwart
A memorial service is to be held at a village church for a local stalwart who passed away last summer.
The event, at St Bartholomew's Church, Welby, at 3pm on Sunday, is for Theo Mayfield, a long-serving church warden there.

Theo, who died in August last year, was also Verger at St Mary's Church, in Melton Mowbray, from 1992 and lived in one of the houses in Church Terrace – he was known for his colourful cobalt blue robes.
Welby Church member, Lisa Sherwood, said: “He will be remembered for his kindness, always being around to help out and his meticulous attention to detail when preparing the church for a service.
“During his time at Welby he increased the congregation well into double figures, numbers that are still current today and quite remarkable considering the churches isolated rural position.
“He enjoyed arranging social events at Welby including Harvest Suppers and loved a Cream Tea which will be served after the service on Sunday.”
