Melton woman battling cancer is thrilled to win raffle in aid of Cancer Research UK

A Melton woman who has been fighting cancer for 10 years said she was '˜chuffed to bits' to win an original watercolour painting donated by local artist Richard Cragg as a raffle prize in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The painting, of two bullfinches, had been donated to the town’s Cancer UK Research shop in South Parade by well-known local artist Richard Cragg.

Richard (69), who is undergoing treatment for bladder cancer, donated his painting as he wanted to help with fundraising.

The prize draw was made by councillor Pam Posnett, with the winning ticket belonging to Cynthia Young.

Her winning ticket was bought for her by her husband, Brian, after seeing an article about the raffle in the Melton Times.

He said: “As soon as we saw the painting we decided to enter. My wife, who has been fighting cancer for 10 years, loved the bullfinches. Winning the picture has given her a real lift.”

Eva Pone, manager at the Cancer UK Research shop, said Mr Cragg’s painting could have been sold outright ‘many times over’ with enquiries from customers to buy it. The raffle raised £70 in aid of Cancer Research UK.
