Scouts will not be delivering Christmas cards around the town this year due to the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

Each festive season, the 36th Melton Mowbray Scout Group delivers over 10,000 cards for, and to, the residents of Melton Mowbray.

But group scout leader, Nathan Jeremiah, says it will not be possible this year unfortunately.

He told the Melton Times: “At this time, planning is usually underway to deliver Christmas joy around the town.

“The safety of our young people, leaders, helpers and the residents of the town is always our first priority and the complication of delivering our Christmas Post service in the current climate has required significant consideration.

“Having considered the risks associated with delivering the Christmas Post service this year, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this years’ service.

“This one off decision has been taken with the hope that we will be able to resume our Christmas Post service in future years.”

Nathan added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Melton for their many years of support.

“We look forward to hopefully seeing you next year and delivering Christmas joy again.”
