Melton Mowbray swimmers benefit from cash donation
A new donation to Melton Mowbray Swimming Club will help its swimmers be even more competitive at meets.
The club, which is based at the town’s Waterfield Leisure Centre, has thanked the St Mary’s Freemasons’ Lodge for giving it £500 to help buy a start ledges for back strokers.

W.Bro. David Alcraft, charity steward for the lodge, presented a cheque to the club’s Tracie McGhie, Emma Redwood and Liz Rawson.
The money assists the club towards their target of raising £2,500 this year to enable it to purchase a total of five back stroke ledges.
Club chair, Emma Redwood, told the Melton Times: “The donation will enable our swimmers to practice and perfect their backstroke starts.
“The new equipment will be a huge benefit to all our swimmers and will enable us to continue to successfully compete at local, county, regional and national swimming competitions.”
She added: “With this donation plus monies raised at our fun gala we have been able to purchase two back stroke start ledges and excitedly await their arrival.
“We will continue with efforts to raise the further funds required to reach our goal.”
Melton Mowbray Swimming Club, which is currently competing in the County Age Group Championships, is a friendly competitive volunteer-led club with members aged from seven to 80.
The younger children swim in the Diddy Leagues and the older members compete in Masters events.
