When Melton man Richard Norton takes to the start line in the Great North Run next Sunday it will be for the 10th time.

After taking up running a decade ago he says it is the unbelievable atmosphere on race day which keeps him coming back for more.

His best time is 1 hour 45 minutes, although he says he now takes things a little slower.

Over the years Richard, a restaurant manager, has raised over £10,000 for different good causes.

This year the forty-three-year-old is raising money for The Royal British Legion, a cause close to his heart as he helped fund the last Melton Remembrance Day parade by running back-to-back sponsored marathons.

To prepare this year Richard has spent a lot of time at PureGym in Loughborough running, cycling, rowing and climbing.

He said: “I cannot wait to see all those people who have sacrificed so much time and effort training to run for good causes.

“I have met so many amazing people with astonishing stories of war and survival, and while there is breath in me, I will continue to support our soldiers, veterans and their families.”
