A report praises the leadership and management of Melton Creche Services, in North Street, and the quality of teaching and learning to prepare children for moving on to school.

Staff were said to engage effectively with the youngsters in their care and encourage them to be independent, such as making their own meals.

Children with special educational needs and disabilities are also supported well.

Owner Joanna Kavanagh, who has run the crèche for 18 months, said: “We are very pleased with the latest Ofsted report and I am very proud of my staff.”

Inspector Hayley Ruane gave ‘good’ ratings for all four of the main examination areas – effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; and outcomes for children.

In her report, she wrote: “Managers and staff have made many improvements since the last inspection.

“For example, staff now plan and implement, well-resourced activities, which effectively support children to make good progress.

“Children arrive happily to the welcoming nursery and are emotionally secure.”

The inspector said the crèche could achieve the highest possible rating of ‘outstanding’ if it gathered more information from parents about children’s prior learning to support their planning and strengthened partnerships with schools to complement their learning there.
