Melton coffee mornings give Macmillan another boost

Lots of tea, coffee and cake was consumed as part of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning (September 28) which raised money for the charity.

Here’s another chance to celebrate some of your fundraising achievements.

Stapleford Park hosted a Staff Bake Off competition and invited guests to its golf pavilion for tea and cakes. Its baking champions were Emma Poole and Samantha Pattison. The day raised £290 for Macmillan.

Others who made a big effort included Melton residents on the corner of Staveley Road who baked and sold cakes which raised £443.30 for the cause, while Jackie Wakefield held a coffee morning at her home in memory of best friend Wendy Brown. Wendy’s family and work colleagues helped contribute to a total of £1,124 to be split between LOROS and Macmillan.

Around £55 was raised at Melton’s Samworth Centre cafe thanks to donations from customers.

The Melton Sage Cross Methodist Church Ladies Club raised £200.80 by having a bring and buy sale, cake stall and quiz at their latest open meeting.

A coffee morning and raffle was put on at The Juniper Tree in King Street, a Melton cafe by day and a gin bar and steak house by night. Staff raised £453.

The Melton Times is also aware of Macmillan fundraising events being held in both the villages of Thrussington and Sproxton.

A look ahead to the weekend and there are coffee mornings being held at Goadby Marwood Village Hall and Welby Lane Mission Church Hall on Saturday.

The event at Goadby Marwood will include the sale of homemade cakes, preserves and a tombola. Guests will be able to enjoy a real cup of coffee or freshly brewed tea, the daily newspapers, croissants and toasted teacakes, all from 10am to midday.

Welby Lane Mission Church Hall is open from 10.30am to midday for a “drop-in” morning for tea, coffee, juice, cakes and a quiz.
