Impressive new veterinary hospital opens in Melton Mowbray
A new veterinary hospital opened in Melton Mowbray this morning (Monday) after hundreds of people visited the impressive site at an open day event on Saturday.
Rutland and Kings Veterinary Centre is operating 24 hours a day in the unit on Snow Hill formerly occupied by Halfords and there has already been huge interest in the advanced facilities it is offering.

The team there have relocated from their previous long-term premises at nearby Kings Road and the new site will give clients access to modern diagnostic tools such as a CT scanner, X ray machines and an ultra sound machine. It has 22 staff with seven new local jobs created.
Wandering around the centre during the open day, there is a large bright reception area as you enter and a myriad of spaces to explore, including waiting rooms for dogs and cats, five consulting rooms and two operating theatres.

Everything looks clean and bright, the pet kennels look warm and cosy and there is also a relaxing bereavement room where people can spend their last precious moments with a pet.
Clinical nursing manager, Cassie Debehnam, said: “This is a much bigger site than Kings Road, probably five or six times bigger.
“We now have a 24-hour facility with a vet and a nurse on site all night.
“Our registered patients can call us at any time and in six months we are hoping to open it up to other patients.”

As visitors wandered about the new centre, Cassie added: “We have had a couple of hundred visiting us today already, including a lot of people who are not clients asking about our new facilities.
"Everyone is impressed with the new technology we have and the size of our new building.”
Lead nurse Cerys Johnson commented: “We are all looking forward to working here every day.
“It is somewhere very different and very new but it is definitely what Melton needs.”

And Robyn Platts, one of the vets at the Melton site, added: “It is great to have access to a CT scanner on site.
"It will allow us to make a much quicker diagnosis for our clients. Before our clients would have to travel 40 minutes for this service.”
