“Our Year 11s have made me so proud in ways that none of us could have imagined a year ago,” she said.

“Not only do today’s results reflect what we know would have been a record-breaking year, the students have conducted themselves with such maturity, integrity, and acceptance in circumstances that have been almost impossible. I am even more proud of them because of this: what an amazing group of young adults they are.

“These students were told with less than a days’ notice, that this phase of their school lives was over. This was incredibly shocking for all of our community and there was a sense of shock and grief when we were all told. Our students were so excited about being able to prove to the world exactly what they are capable of.

“Fortunately, we were able to hold our GCSE results day at school instead of remotely so that students got the chance to collect their results in person. Although circumstances meant it was not the usual celebration, it was wonderful to see all the students receive the results they worked so hard for. We are incredibly excited about holding a prom later in the Autumn so that we can all celebrate together and are determined to make this all the more special.

“Quite honestly, our Year 11s have supported us as much as we have supported them over the last few months – indeed they have shown themselves to be a genuinely remarkable group of young people and I feel quite choked to think about the respect I have for them. I must take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our just wonderful students: we will miss you so much – looking forward to seeing you at the prom!”
