Firefighters battle another major blaze at business park near Melton

Residents in the Melton area have been posting photos on social media of thick black smoke billowing into the air.

Householders in the Melton and Asfordby areas have been urged to keep all windows and doors closed because of the smoke in the air.

Melton Fire Station have Tweeted: “Crews from Melton assisted crews from across Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire are in attendance at a large fire involving a large amount of plastics and insulation at a storage facility on Asfordby Business Park.”

Ann Gale, station manager for the control room at Leicester Fire and Rescue Service, has Tweeted: “The Leicestershire fire service are dealing with a large fire at Asfordby Budiness Park.

“Control are receiving multiple calls due to the amount of smoke which is visible from all around the Melton Mowbray area.”

Multiple fire crews fought a blaze at the same industrial park on Sunday morning for several hours.

Leicestershire Police have posted on social media: “Due to an ongoing fire in Asfordby, please can all residents of Asfordby and all residents of Melton Mowbray please keep their doors and windows closed.”
