Filmmaking contest success for Brooksby Melton College students

Enter the Pitch is a prestigious filmmaking competition which aims to invest in untapped potential by giving one lucky winner £25,000 and a trip to Los Angeles to transform their initial pitch into a film, with the help of Hollywood industry professionals.

The initial stage of this year’s competition required students to produce a two minute pitch based on a theme, story or verse from the bible. BMC student Lucy Jordan took inspiration from the story Jesus is Tempted (Matthew 4:1-11) to produce ‘Midnight Wonders’, an eerie short film about a young girl named April that earned her a place on the competition’s long list.

BMC students were also provided with the unique opportunity of receiving dedicated individual feedback from the Enter the Pitch judges during a day of presentations and masterclasses at BMC’s Melton campus.

Paul Smith, BA digital film production lecturer at BMC said: “The students have been entering this competition for the past four years. It’s a great opportunity for students to develop an idea, pitch to an industry-focused panel at Pinewood studios, and hopefully be successful in obtaining a £25,000 prize fund to bring their original pitch into reality.

“There are not many competitions that offer a prize of this stature in the UK.”

The recent multi-million pound BMC transformation has provided BA digital film production students with the very best in technology, facilities and teaching.

Facilities include brand new production and editing suites, a film and TV studio with one of the largest infinity green screens outside of London, and a range of high quality cameras, lighting, and sound equipment.

BMC now offers film and TV production courses at a range of levels.
