Events Village launches in Melton park for the packed summer season
The first open air cinema screening of the year takes place in Melton Mowbray on Friday to launch a packed summer season of free entertainment.
Melton Mowbray Town Estate is establishing a brand-new Events Village in Play Close Park to support the various activities, which include Northern Soul and R&B event this weekend.

The Town Estate has also made the ‘difficult decision’ to cancel the regular summer brass band concerts at the bandstand due to ‘increasing operational costs and declining audience attendance’.
CEO, Dean Rees, confirmed that the launch weekend with the Events Village will be packed with entertainment for all ages.

“We are thrilled to be kicking off the Melton Mowbray Town Estate Summer Season of free events with a packed weekend of entertainment," he said.
“Following the cinema on Friday, the fun continues with Old Skool R&B on Saturday and is rounded off with 2Stroke Sunday, which will feature the multi-award-winning talent of Richie Sampson from Soul Kinda Wonderful.”
The first cinema screening will feature the Wicked movie, with gates opening at 7.30pm and the film starting at dusk.
The Town Estate say the creation of the Events Village and its curated calendar is part of its commitment to its role as a charity, seeking to entertain the widest possible audience while generating income to reinvest into more free events.
Although the brass band Bandstand concerts won’t take place this year there will be one dedicated date for the popular Melton Band, which will be announced shortly.
