We reported last week how parents had been left distressed by seeing the cards, at the Thorpe Road site, which are normally given following the birth of a child.

Melton Borough Council, which manages the cemetery, said it had been in contact with one of the parents affected.

A spokesperson said: “The council takes these matters very seriously.

“Shortly after this incident was reported, our officers visited the site to inspect the area and remove any remaining items.

“The team is currently in the process of assessing additional security measures for the site, looking at various options - including CCTV.”
