Essential workers will be given priority in the booking system at the mobile unit, which will be available for just a few days.

It will have an integrated one-way system which allows people with an appointment to attend for either walk-in or drive through testing.

Melton Borough Council leader, Joe Orson, said: “We are pleased to support the NHS in providing a mobile testing facility in Melton.

“Testing enables people who are exhibiting symptoms to find out if they have the virus and make the decision as to whether they need to isolate.

“I would urge anyone who is exhibiting symptoms to book an appointment to get tested.”

Three patients with Covid-19 have sadly died at Melton Mowbray Hospital since the start of the outbreak.

And 365 patients, who tested positive for the virus, have passed away at Leicester hospitals, where the most serious cases in Leicestershire are treated.

A spokesperson for University of Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust said in the latest update: “Sadly, we can confirm that 365 patients being cared for at our hospitals, and who had tested positive for COVID-19, have died.

“Two of those deaths were announced on June 6.

“The ages of the patients range between those in their 50s to those in their 80s.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the patients at this very difficult and distressing time.”
