Kathryn Saunby, who has a studio in Charlotte Street, is teaching people the techniques of different art mediums to give families a little fun.

“A lot of my at risk older students have gone into self isolation and are unable to get to lessons, so I decided to start doing a live Facebook feed for them,” said Kathryn.

“It then occurred to me that there are many people, not just my students, who will be struggling with self isolation. To that end I would like to spread the word to everyone who is housebound and also for the coming months when we could all be in lockdown, that every Wednesday, 10am-12noon, I will do an interactive class for anyone who wants to join in.”

Kathryn launched last Wednesday and had around 700 visitors to her first demonstration. Lessons last for two hours and aim to have a different theme each time. The day before Kathryn usually instructs people what equipment they will need to join in on a Facebook post, however, she stresses not to panic if you have a limited selection.

She added: “Art can keep us sane in this uncertain time.

“When having to concentrate hard on drawing a line or painting something it means that we stop worrying about what’s going on around us.

“There’s a famous quote by Picasso which says ‘art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life’.”
