Charity hero Paul to run his 100th marathon

Paul will be reuniting with former student Joe Pope (aka Batman) as they take on the Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham.

The dynamic duo, who completed this year’s London Marathon in their costumes, have raised thousands of pounds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust from a variety of events, donations and with the support of John Ferneley College making it their charity of the year.

Paul has been a PE teacher at John Ferneley for many happy years where he has known and taught many cystic fibrosis sufferers.

Joe, who was taught PE by Paul while studying at John Ferneley, has gone on to study management at the University of Leicester and the pair are now close friends.

The college made the Cystic Fibrosis Trust its charity of the year, raising funds and awareness of the condition because of several cystic fibrosis sufferers attending the college.

Sunday’s race will be the final act of fundraising for John Ferneley’s chosen charity for last year as well as being Paul’s 100th marathon. The college has helped Paul and Joe raise nearly £10,000 for the charity.

Joe was inspired to start the fundraising campaign by the Roberts family, of Asfordby Hill, who have raised over £100,000 for the cause. Nigel and Natasha Roberts and their twin sons, James and Oliver, who are cystic fibrosis sufferers, were there to cheer on Paul and Joe in London as part of the twins’ birthday celebrations in the capital.
