Casualty trapped in A46 collision near Melton

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a motorist sustained ‘serious injuries’ in a single-vehicle collision on The A46 near Melton last night (Monday).

Firefighters from Melton and Birstall were deployed at 8.42pm after receiving reports of the collision and crews released the injured man from the wreckage.

A crew from East Midlands Ambulance Service treated the casualty at scene of the incident, at Six Hills, before taking him to hospital.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “The driver, a man, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, to be treated for serious injuries.

“The road was closed for several hours while officers remained at the scene and reopened at around 3am.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has video recording equipment installed in their vehicles is asked to get in touch if they captured any part of the collision on their cameras.”

Police closed the A46 northbound at the junction of the A46 and A6006 for six hours while investigations were carried out and the vehicle was recovered.
