Belvoir High School celebrates being top of county league table for GCSE results

An impressive 76 per cent of pupils achieved five GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths, compared to 60 per cent in 2014 - recently published performance tables show.

Jane Gant, acting head of centre at Belvoir High School, said: “We’re delighted with the official news this week that Belvoir High School is top of the performance tables in Leicestershire and Rutland based on the 2015 results, with 76 per cent of pupils achieving five GCSEs at A* to C including English and maths.

“This news only consolidates what as a school we already knew, that the hard-work and dedication shown from our team of incredible staff, during a turbulent period including national teacher shortages and financial pressures, has paid off. It also consolidates the standards which, as a school, we are striving to achieve from the introduction of our new formal uniform to the new behaviour policy in school to eliminate low level disruption.

“The support from our parents, the governing body and ultimately the commitment from pupils during the implementation of these changes must also be noted.”

She added: “An incredible 80 per cent of students achieved A* to C in both English and maths, placing the school on par with independent schools across the county. This is further testament to the outstanding commitment of our teachers and the devotion shown to ensure that students were offered every opportunity to succeed with an increased focus on individualised learning and intervention. These processes have this year been introduced across all departments and in-year predictions suggest that 2016 will also be just as successful for Belvoir High.”

Long Field Academy in Melton also saw a huge leap in the number of students who achieved five GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths, jumping from 46 per cent in 2014 to 60 per cent last year. The academy was also thrilled with the 27 per cent of students who achieved the English Baccalaureate last year.

Melton’s John Ferneley College also saw improvement in its results, with 64 per cent of students achieving five GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths, last year compared to 57 per cent for the year before.
