Band members raise hundreds of pounds for brain injury charity

A brain injury charity has thanked members of Belvoir Big Band for raising hundreds of pounds for its work.

The money was made by the Harby-based band from its charity concerts for the Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland and Nottingham Headway groups, which help patients and families in the neuro wards and intensive care units in the area’s main trauma centre at the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham.

The groups are always in need of donations to enable them to continue their work so Belvoir Big Band wanted to help.

In an effort to assist the charity, in a small way, and as part of their annual charity donation programme, the band made a donation of £400 to Headway to assist in their work.

A cheque was presented at a rehearsal night at Harby village hall by Allan Toombs, the band’s bass player and secretary, to Rhiana Lakin, Headway’s fundraiser, and Vicky Davison, acting chair of Headway’s board of trustees.

Rhiana commented: “We are thrilled to have Belvoir Big Band’s support.

"Their incredibly generous donation will help our clients rebuild their skills, independence and confidence.

"Brain injury strikes without warning and can change lives forever – stripping away someone’s ability to work, placing unbearable strain on families, and leading to devastating isolation.

"This invaluable donation will help us make sure that no one has to face the trauma of brain injury alone.

"It will empower our community to focus on what they can achieve and give hope for a future not defined solely by disability.

"Our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Belvoir Big Band.”

The charity provides great comfort and specialist help for anyone who suffers a brain injury – its representatives possess extensive experience in this type of care and recovery.

It is just one of many important local causes that the band has helped over the years.

It has donated thousands of pounds to local and national charities during the 11 years since its formation, either as direct funding or through playing at fundraising events.
