The service is based at the borough council’s Parkside offices, off Burton Street, and staff will only now be available for appointments there between 10am and 2pm.

Normal hours are still in operation, however, for appointments which take place by telephone or online.

Angela Coggan, team leader at Melton Mowbray Jobcentre, said: “The majority of our customer appointments are carried out by phone and we are encouraging digital contact, however we remain open for face-to-face appointments for the most vulnerable customers.”

Council staff are also only open for appointments at present and they too encourage residents to make digital or telephone contact for now.

The doors at the customer entrance are set to open on exit only and there is an intercom fitted so that customers can talk to the main reception and discuss their reason for calling.

A member of staff from both the the council and Jobcentre Plus are manning the intercom during opening hours.

There are posters displayed at the office entrance advising customers of alternative methods of contact.

All callers must wear a face covering in line with current Covid restrictions, unless they are in an exempt category.
