Amazing Grace is a '˜Child of courage'

Grace Moore (10), who lives with her family in Scalford Road, Melton, was named winner of the ‘Child of Courage’ category at last year’s Melton Times Community Awards.

But she was disappointed to be not well enough to attend the presentation evening at Melton Vale Post 16 Centre in October.

After finally receiving her award and framed certificate, the Ab Kettleby Primary School pupil beamed with happiness.

Her mother, Trish, said: “It is a lovely boost for Grace to get this award. Unfortunately, the night of the awards she was about to undergo her latest chemotherapy and she wasn’t well enough to go.

“It was a year ago last week that she was diagnosed but she is now doing really well.

“She’s back at school and she also started riding her pony again.”

She was nominated for the award by a teaching assistant at her school, Samantha Brunt, who said Grace was ‘the most selfless person that I have met’.

Samantha said she was always smiling and enjoyed helping other children on the ward she was being treated at, the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Life is slowly getting back to normal for Grace and her family are hopeful she will make a full recovery.

One of her favourite activities is taking her beloved dog, Daisy, for a walk, using the new electric scooter her grandmother bought her.

In April, she was well enough to watch her dad, Ben, win a big charity horse race.

Trish added: “Grace has missed a lot of school because of her treatment and we did talk about her staying on an extra year but she is determined to go up to secondary school when her friends do.”
